Genre: Rock
For Fans Of: Farewell, My Love, The Relapse Symphony, Chasing Thrill

This is Cinema Sleep’s first album, and man I’d be lying if I said they didn't do well on this release! Their songs aren't only catchy, but quite clever with their lyrics. Which gives them a huge plus, and a reason to listen to them. I honestly fell in love with this album during the very first listen through it. This band just proves rock and roll isn't dead, and that it’s still a good genre to listen to. This band could have probably made it back in the 80’s if they came out, because their sound somewhat fits that time period. Nowadays people want bands with breakdowns, and hateful lyrics. I’m not going to lie. I do love that type of music as well, but I do love rock and roll, and soft bands, like Cinema Sleep. Rock and roll was a genre I grew up with, along with post grunge. Those two genres are the genres I grew up with and had to listen to in my dad’s car on every trip we took. It makes me happy to see a band like Cinema Sleep making their dreams into a reality, even though their genre isn't listened too much anymore. The genre is still strong, and I do have faith in Cinema Sleep to make it big, and get some radio time. They have everything you needs to be on the radio now a days, catchy lyrics, a good sound, and they're not to vulgar with their lyrics. A few songs that kind of stood out on this album would be "Wildcard", "Dead Poet’s Society", "Misprint", "Matadora", and "Right Where You Belong". "Wildcard" was a really good start for this album. It wasn't too heavy, or too soft; it was just perfect, and it didn't take them long to get into the song, and get right to the point of their music. "Wildcard" has this rock sound, and some really good lyrics to compliment the song. My only complaint about the song is that it’s not as long as it should be. I’d definitely give this song an extra minute or a few more seconds. The song has some really catchy lyrics, if I might add to that. By listening to this song about a few times, I can honestly say this would be the song people sing to at a show the loudest, and the best. Mostly because the lyrics are simple, and can easily be remembered. "Misprint" is the albums depressed sounding kind of song. It starts off depressive with the instrument play, and then gets its happiness farther into the song. The lyrics still make this song sound sad, in a way.  This is what most rock and roll bands do, they’d have one song that’d be ballad, the ballad is usually a sad song about a female, or something in the bands life, and this is just what Cinema Sleep did. The lyrics kind of make this song into being about the vocalist’s path to be in a band, and make it big in his musical career. You can hear this pretty well in this song, and you can tell he really wants this to happen in his future. I do believe that Cinema Sleep has what it takes to be a big band, if they keep releasing music that sound like this. "Matadora" starts off really heavy, which makes this song one of the songs that stand out the most. "Collapse" does too, but not on the scale of "Matadora" in my opinion. The lyrics to "Matadora" are probably some of my favorite lyrics on the whole album, and I have to say I really do love the guitar play on this song. Those riffs are pretty interesting to listen to. Well honestly, almost every song has some really interesting instrument play, and that’s definitely something this band is good at. "Right Where You Belong" is the last song on this amazing piece of music. "Right Where You Belong" seems like a song that was wrote to a loved one to telling them that they’re right where they belong, and farther in the song it sounds like the vocalist is giving advice to tell the loved one, that the world is cruel and he’s looking at him for her, and that she’s right where she belongs. Cinema Sleeps does some really amazing work on this album, and I really do think people could love this album if they give it a chance, and a few listens too. There’s nothing you can really hate about it, if you like rock and roll. There are a few places that could use improvement, but hey you can’t always be perfect. It just makes you want to try for another release, and another after that. I only want Cinema Sleep to fix their sound a little bit, to add even more of that rock feeling to it. They do a good job right now, but I feel like they could add just a little bit more feeling to their music. Cinema Sleep is definitely trying to redefine rock and roll though for the better, and make this genre come alive again!
Breakdown:
Cleans: The clean vocals have this perfect sound to them. They’re new, and they fit really well. You can definitely tell right away that they’re a rock and roll band. I have to say that I really do enjoy the clean vocals in this band. They’re new, and different to listen to, and something that’s not really used a lot in bands today. Another good thing this band does with their vocals is add the extra emotion to make their songs sound better, and get the cool, relative feeling with the listener. It seems a lot of bands do that now, but Cinema Sleep does it pretty well, and on every song they write, it seems.
Instruments: Wow… That’s all I’m going to really say about the instrument play. The guitar play on some songs is just outstanding, and phenomenal to listen to.  I think little bands in the rock and roll genre could take some notes from Cinema Sleep’s guitarist. Along with guitar play, there is some drum play on this album that is truly outstanding and really something to listen to! This band does the real deal with their instruments, and make their music really enjoyable for people to listen to!

Another Lost Year - Better Days

7. Runaway
8. Last Goodbye
9. Writing On The Wall
10. Come And Gone
11. Forgot About Us

Genre: Post Grunge
For Fans Of: Nickelback, Shinedown, Seether

Another Lost Year’s debut album, and honestly I’d have to say this band impressed me I've always had a thing for post grunge bands it’s one genre I grew up with and this band brings back some memories. But all in all I will give Another Lost Year their props and their due, this album is probably one of my favorites to listen to over and over again. There really isn't really anything to hate about this release if you love post grunge bands. The emotion this band brings to this album and to their songs is truly remarkable and something many bands don’t do much, but it’s always a shock to listen to a post grunge band and hear all the emotion they add to their songs and the feelings they’ll bring in a few minutes. A few songs that stood out on this album would have to be, Better Days, War On The Inside, Angels, Last Goodbye, Forgot About Us. Better Days is the strong point of this album I think, because it’s the first song and you just don’t expect the feelings the band brings at first. You can usually tell when an album is going to be good from the first song and if it isn't, now this isn't always the case for some bands but for this band that does fit. Better Days is also one of my favorite songs off this album because of the ending have growls at the end which is something I really wasn't expecting. War On The Inside has a lot of emotion to the song which is kind of a reason why it stands out a little bit more. I would have to say this song has a really good meaning and the emotion the vocalist adds to the song jut gives it this great feeling to it I can’t picture another band doing what this band did to this song, I seriously can’t but if another band does I really want to hear it as soon as they release it. I’m probably making this band out to be one of the best bands to come out. I’m honestly not trying too, but they are one of the best that I've heard recently and they’re definitely a band that needs to be heard by more people because this album is literally perfect in every sense of that word and I can’t wait for another release from this band in the future. Forgot About Us this song is the last song on this release, sadly! It had to end I would have been completely okay with another two or three songs to be honest. They do end this album off with a good song though, I’d have to say I really do like the meaning behind this song. From what I can hear in the lyrics it’s about a bad break up or a bad relationship a song that a lot of people can relate to and a good topic to cover because people do like songs they can relate to. I’d honestly have to say this band could save lives with their music and I’m sure they have already. When this band comes around me I will definitely go see them and buy this to support them because they honestly deserve to make it in their careers and have their music out there more. I’m really hoping they have another release coming out soon because I don’t know how long I could wait for another release. I seriously enjoyed this album a lot and I’m going to have to playing for a while until the day they write another album or come out with some new music. I hope other people enjoy this band as much as I did and become as big of a fan as I did with this release.
Breakdown:
Cleans: The vocalist has this voice that just fits really well in band and gives them this unique sound. I’d have to say one thing that’s a plus about the vocalists is the fact he can add all these emotions to the songs he writes and it does the band some serious good in the end and gives this album more reasoning to listen to it. I honestly really like the vocalist’s style with his vocals because it’s new and it fits really well with this band’s sound and it’s not really used in post grunge bands, well maybe in the past it was used a little bit more but now a days it isn't and it’s something that a lot of people can enjoy.
Screams: Now I’m going to call these vocals screams because they do sound like screams. You won’t really hear them a lot but in a few songs you end up hearing them near the end of the song. There’s nothing wrong in spicing up your music and adding another genre to your music to give you a great sound which is what this band did. The screams you hear are perfectly placed in the songs and the screams lyrics are great as well. There isn't really anything to complain about, but they could have added some more of the scream type vocals in their music to attract a different genres fan base to their music so they have a chance to have more than one genres fan base liking and looking at their music. Hopefully in the next release they do some more of this. It’s an idea they could use.
Instruments: The instrument play on this album isn't really amazingly good or god like, but I do give them some credit because on some songs there are some great guitar play or drum play or just a great instrument flow on it. Another Lost Year has everything a good band needs to succeed in today’s music and I would honestly love to see them get a lot bigger than they are now maybe in the future they will get noticed and get really big.

Slette - Northwest Riders (Ft. Decent)

Posted by Unknown On Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Genre: Rap
For Fans Of: Eminem, Hopsin, Jarren Benton.

This is a brand new song from Slette, featuring Decent. Now some background on Decent: He’s sixteen, and one of the best local based rappers that I’ve heard, along with Slette. Now both rappers have been writing songs for a while now, and they’re great together. I sure would like to see them do more songs together in their futures. Now in full honesty, I’ve known Slette for a few years, and at first he wasn’t that good. However, he’s been improving his rapping, his style, and his lyrics. If you asked me a year or two ago if Slette was good, I’d probably tell you no, and that he’s not worth listening too; but if you asked me today, I would say yes, Slette has honestly grown up, and improved a lot in his rapping career. The man deserves everything he has right now, and I fully agree with that. It’s honestly kind of crazy being with this guy for a year or so, and watching him grow as an artist. I have to admit it’s a great feeling, I told Slette a few months ago that he should start rapping about real topics, and some other stuff other than sex and partying. That stuff is starting to die out in the genre, which is good in my honest opinion. Once I said that, he liked the idea and used it for his newest album, “Let Me Be Legendary”. The guy makes me proud to be honest. Now Decent, I honestly haven’t heard much from Decent, but after this, I kind of want to hear more from him. I mean he’s 16, has a sick flow, and some sick lyrics. He’s going to go far, and I can honestly say that from just listening to this song. I’d like to see Decent do the same as Slette, and see how it works out for him. If he raps about topics that people can relate too, and can have some feelings that too, he might end up getting bigger than he expected in such little time. Decent has a nice flow with his lyrics, and his voice just sounds like it fits fully with the beat of the song. This is something that does him some good. The kid has a lot of talent, and I’d like to see him make it big in his career, I honestly do.
Cleans: Both Decent, and Slette have some good vocals and nice flows with their lyrics. This does them some honest good in their music. I only hope that these two can improve, and get better than what they are now, because it will do them some favors in their futures of being artists. One main thing that does them both justice, is the fact they keep along with the beat in the song pretty well.
Beat: The beat is pretty straight going, and sounds kind of like a club song, in my full opinion. The beat doesn't change much, which is pretty nice. It’s basically calm and relaxed.

Youth In Revolt - Locked And Loaded

Posted by Unknown On Friday, May 10, 2013

Genre: Post Hardcore
For Fans Of: Skarlett, Set On Famous, Amyst

Youth In Revolt’s debut single and I’d have to say this band came into the music scene with a huge bang, I honestly don’t think any of their fan base that’s heard their Ke$ha cover was expecting this.  Now I’m not going to sit here and say this song is terrible and generic like the most of the youtube comments are saying because I honestly don’t think theirs music a post hardcore band can do that’s not used already, post hardcore is a pretty big genre but each band has their own type of style with everything, anyway. Youth In Revolt is a pretty impressive band when you actually sit there and listen to everything in this song, not going to lie there, their guitar work is brilliant and their drumming is great, the vocals were the biggest surprise for me there are some crazy highs on this song which is something I enjoyed. After really listening to this song a few times over and over I can kind of hear how asking Alexandria and capture the crown could have possibly influenced this band, but as I've said every band has their own style with their music and that is something no one really looks into they only care about the sound if they don’t like it, it’s either generic or garbage and they voice their opinions and post the song over and over again telling everyone how bad it is, which if you honestly think about it you’re giving the band some promotion, and youth in revolt could deal with that promotion you’re giving them, it’s not going to affect their careers much. Now with all this being said, I do support these dudes in whatever they’re planning to do, but the one thing I loved about this song which might be what a lot of people hate about it, is the lyrics, sure they’re immature and they curse a lot, it happens but the song has a wonderful flow to it and is really enjoyable no matter how many times you listen to it. Definitely stoked on for whatever these guys are doing next.
Breakdown:
Cleans: The clean vocals, have a few parts in this song and when you first hear the clean vocalist you aren't really expecting them. The range is somewhat high, this type of a range seems to be the most popular today, I really do enjoy this bands clean vocalist, he has a nice voice and a great flow to his voice to make this song sound even better. I kind of wish he had a few more lines in this song though.
Screams: The screamer has somewhat of an original range it sounds like his highs are pretty neat to listen to in this song. The screamer has more parts in the song then the clean vocalist does, I’m okay with it but in the future I want them to have equal parts, if they do this the song might be a little bit more interesting to listen to.  But in fully honesty, I have to give it up to the screamer for having such a unique style even though it gets the generic label, I don’t think I've heard many vocalist who can hit that high notes like he does, he definitely makes the song more interesting to listen to and keeps your attention on the song.
Instruments: The instrument play kept me liking this song to be completely honest, I really do like the guitar play and the drumming on this song, it just sticks out on this song pretty well. The instrument play kind of shows how they got their influences from asking Alexandria, capture the crown, and a few other bands if you listen closely, now this isn't a bad thing because I kind of like the asking Alexandria vibe in band’s music, I love how they mess around with it to make something sound amazing, sure youth in revolt may sound like every other post hardcore band to some people but to the other half they’re a band trying to make it in this scene, and those people will treat with  respect. On that note, seriously stoked for the next song to come out.

Genre: Hardcore
For Fans Of: Liferuiner, Being As An Ocean, Attila

So I just found this band randomly by looking at hardcore bands on YouTube, and I’d have to say that I’m seriously glad that I found “On To The Next One” on YouTube. It easily became my favorite song to date. I know this band has been out for a while, and that I’m pretty late to write this, but hey, anytime is good a good time for some promotion on a bands release, right? The main factor I love about this band, is that they’ve mixed three genres into one; Hip Hop, Metal, and Hardcore. Now, bands that usually do this make something that isn’t too good. However, this band makes it sounds decently good, and I do give them a lot of props for it. I really like how you can hear all three influences really well, and that there’s no honest way that you can miss it. A few songs that stood out on this album would have to be, “On To The Next One”, “Booger Cookie”, “Decent Price”, “Scumbag”, “New Friends Request From California's Girlfriend” and “Forever Again...”. “On To The Next One” is the song that I randomly found on YouTube, and it made me a fan of this band really quickly. It shows their talents pretty well, and you can hear the all three influences pretty quickly within the song. “Scumbag” is another big song for me from this band. It just has a pretty nice instrument flow to it, and it is another song that shows off all three genre influences in this band. However, the metal influence is the strongest in this song it sounds like, but hey? Who’s going to complain about that? “Forever Again…” was a song that I liked because of the title at first, then when I actually listened to the song I felt like this band could do anything, and have no possible wrong side. I honestly hope that this band has another release coming out soon, because after this it really makes me want some more from this band! The power they have in their music is amazing, and I hope they inspire more bands to have this kind of power in their music.
Breakdown:
Cleans: There’s a little bit of cleans, well if you can even call them cleans, because they’re basically him talking a bit and then him screaming. I’d have to say that his clean vocals stay on flow, even though it’s just him talking. When you hear his clean vocals a bit, you know that there’s going to be a heavy breakdown, or some loud noises about to start going on within the next few seconds. I’d have to say that’s the biggest thing that this band has, that many other bands do not.
Screams: I’m going to call the vocals screams, because they have that feeling to them. The vocalist does screams, and some types of cleans. His screams are pretty nice because his screaming style changes up in every song, which is one thing that I have to say impressed me about this release, and this band. Not many vocalist can change up their style in every song, and still have the listener hooked on his bands songs. I honestly hope that this band has something new in the works, because letting someone with this much talent do nothing, is going to end up killing someone.
Instrument: The instrument play is crazy, and in a lot of songs you can hear the hardcore influence in the instruments and the vocals. But, for the most part, in the instrument play. The instruments always have a phenomenal flow in them, which does the band real good for their music, and only gives them the edge that they need to be bigger than what they already are.

Of Reverie - Dream Catcher

Posted by Unknown On Monday, May 6, 2013

Track list:
1. The Divided
2. A Dose Of Reality (Ft. Tyler Carter, Michael Bohn)
3. Dreamcatcher
4. Kingdoms
5. Silent Tides
6. Echoes (Ft. Chris Shelly)

Genre: Post Hardcore
For Fans Of: Woe Is Me, Issues, At The Skylines

This is Of Reverie’s first release ever and I will come out and say it, they did a brilliant job in releasing this ep. It has everything a post hardcore band needs and it’s something that you can listen to over and over again without getting tired of it. The first time you listen to this ep is like any other album or any type of music, you have no idea what to expect from the band or what you are about to listen to, but when you listen to the first song on this ep you kind of get a good feeling what you’re going to be listening to. If anything the first song really pulls you into the whole ep because it shows off Of Reveries sound pretty well and you can tell the range of the vocalist, the sound of the guitars, and how hard the drummer hits, it’s all in first song which is something really good, but there are still some surprises on this release which is one reason it’s one of my favorite debut eps from a small band, I’d have to honestly say I’m waiting for another release from this band already, if it’ll amount higher than this ep, which I can’t see but I have faith in this band to do, so we’ll have to wait and see.

“Divided”
First song on this release and the best way to start off their first release, showing everyone their talents in three minutes, honestly, this song is brilliant. The vocals are phenomenal and some of the best I've heard from a small band I became a big fan of this band as soon as the clean vocals came into this song for the reasoning of the vocals having their own style to them, almost everything in this band has something unique about them which really makes this and stand out in their genre.
Breakdown:
Cleans:  Now I’ll be completely honest here the thing that really got me hooked on this band is definitely the clean vocals because of reasoning it sounding a bit more unique and having his own style with his vocals, but in complete honesty everything in this band has its own uniqueness and having something great about them. I can honestly see this band blowing up and getting bigger than they are now I for one surely hope to see this band get bigger in their careers because they deserve it and they did put some work and effort into these songs on this ep.
Screams: The screamers style is a little bit different but highly enjoyable. The screamers style is somewhat unique but that’s mainly because of his voice, but to be completely honest I do enjoy his vocals but I do kind of wish he had more of a heavy feeling towards them, maybe on the next release!
Instruments: The instruments are great on this song near the end of the song the guitars get better and heavier which makes this song end on a seriously heavy good note. One thing about this song I can honestly say I enjoyed was the guitar play for the reasoning of it being a little bit different for a post hardcore band and the fact you can tell their guitar play has some extreme talent with his instrument, the drumming is also good but not as impressive as the guitars in my opinion.

“A Dose Of Reality”
This is only the second song and this song really makes Of Reverie look great. I mean features from both vocalist of Issues? You have to be pretty good to pull that off, and that is just what Of Reverie did. Tyler and Michael both did an amazing job on this song and their vocals both fit the band’s sound really well. This song’s lyrics are the main thing I really enjoy about this song they’re something you can easily relate too and does this ep some serious good. I think once people hear this song they might really want to hear the rest of the ep because they just won’t know what to expect but when they hear it they’ll be pretty amazed.
Breakdown:
Cleans: The clean vocals still have their uniqueness to them which makes this band stand out in the music scene they’re in, but on this song the clean vocals are a little bit more higher than the first song which isn’t a bad thing if you really think about it, just shows how talented their vocalist is.
Screams: The screams still have a decently great sound to them. The screamers voice really makes his vocal style stand out a lot more and does the band some serious good for being original and different and it honestly sounds great.
Instruments: The instrumentals stay with the vocalists flow even Tylers and Michaels vocal flow which impressed me the most. This band is seriously talented and I honestly hope they go far in their careers. I’m sure I’m going to say this more in this review but it’s true.

“Dreamcatcher”
I think this is my favorite song on this whole release because of the lyrics “running your mouth won’t get you far” that’s definitely the part of the song that’s my favorite and definitely the best lyric part in this song and makes it sound a bit hateful in a way, but not fully. I think this is supposed to be the title track of the ep if so, they honestly did what every band does, make the title track the song that everyone loves the most which is nice super nice and did them some serious good!
Breakdown:
Cleans: Again, the clean vocals change up a bit and keeps the unique title with them which this factor has impressed me so much. I give the clean vocalist some serious props for this and I have to say it’s the most enjoyable thing about this band.
Screams: The screams sound a bit deeper and higher at the same time which is something I’ve heard in few other bands as well as this one, but this band does it the best it seems and really makes something brilliant out of it.
Instruments: The instrument play on this song is absolutely phenomenal it amazes me, seriously, this song is probably the best song on this EP when it comes to instruments in my opinion.

“Kingdoms”
Shortest song on the ep, but let’s give this song it’s due it starts off insanely heavy and stays heavy, but this song could be a little longer. I mean who knows what else they could have done with a more time on this song? Maybe make it even heavier than it came out to be? But one thing I do love about this song near the end it gets somewhat heavier and sounds a bit different and let’s just say the end is perfect when it comes to breakdowns and ending a song.
Breakdown:
Cleans: Oh My… Yeah, that’s what you’ll be saying when you hear the clean vocals in this song. I won’t even lie, but the clean vocalist seriously proved he is one talented man with his vocals on this song. There’s just parts in the song that are just jaw dropping to say the least.
Screams: The screams sound deep, that’s about it, but honestly when we’re talking about this screamers style you can say a lot, because the voice is and style are just unique.
Instruments: Now this song has some fairly decent instrument play for the first few minutes… Now when you talk about the ending of this song it’s perfectly heavy and has a whole different feeling to then it did at the start of the song which may have lead me to enjoy this song more. The end is absolutely stunning when it comes to an ending.

“Silent Tides”
Second to last song on this ep and I’ll have to say they went full out on this song to get you excited for the last song! I think this might be the heaviest song on this whole ep and the most hateful as it sounds with the lyrics. The screamer really brings a hateful and angry feeling into the song for the better of the songs meaning. I give him some props for that. Now the clean vocalist adds a relaxed and calm feeling in a way then after his part the screamer comes back with such an aggressive feeling it’s like the clean vocalist is calm and the screamer is aggressive which really makes this song something unique and great to listen over and over again.
Breakdown:
Cleans: The clean vocalist brings this calm and somewhat relaxed feeling into this song after the aggressive feeling the screamer brought in which isn't that bad and does them some good on this song. He doesn't do anything really impressive on this song, sadly but he does some good with his parts and uniqueness.
Screamer: The screamer has this aggressive feeling in his vocals the whole way through his parts which really makes this song good. It fits the lyrics pretty good too. This song has the most plays because of this, this band really knows how to make a song sound different than the rest of the post hardcore scene.
Instruments: The instruments aren't the best in my opinion, but they still get their props for keeping a good flow through the whole song.

“Echoes”
The last song and my favorite and the song that got me into this band. One of my favorite vocalist, Chris Shelley does some guest vocals on this song to make it come alive, not trying to say Of Reverie did bad at all, but I seriously give them some credit for getting Chris on this song to bring it out and make it the best song and the better ending to their debut ep. I honestly have to say I hope this band comes out with a debut album on a big label, they deserve it and I’m proud to call myself a fan of this band.
Breakdown:
Cleans: The cleans sound like they do on almost every song added they sound a bit higher on this song to make it the best ending for a debut ep. Both vocalist went all out on this song to make the listener ready for the next release!
Screamer: The screamer did some good as well, I can honestly tell he put a lot into this song to make it sound good, and with that being said I’m proud of him I honestly hope though in the next release he keeps his unique still and makes it into something new and better.
Instruments: The instruments are pretty heavy on this song for the better though. I hope for the next release the ending is ten time better than this one. I really want to see how they amount to this though.
