Genre: Post Hardcore
For Fans Of: Asking Alexandria, Set On Famous, Down And Dirty

Skarlett has been a band that has always stirred up a lot of controversy with their sound. They’re pretty interesting, though. The band has always gotten hate for making music, and having a band heavily influence them. The band that they seem to get compared a lot too is Asking Alexandria, which I can definitely see why that is. They do sound a lot like them, but they have their differences. If anything, Skarlett sounds like the first album by Asking Alexandria. Which was probably the most enjoyable from Asking Alexandria as well. This might be as to why I sort of like Skarlett. Now, I’m not a band-wagoner, I like Skarlett. I’m not going to say that they’re my favorite band ever, because they aren’t. They’re a new band, and they could use some work, a lot of work. That will lead to finding a sound that fits them. The sound that they have now, fits them pretty well, I’m not going to lie about that. But I think something a bit more original might land them on top, and may stop them from getting so much hate, and dumb questions on their Facebook. Trolls will be trolls, though… but in reality those trolls still manage to listen to the band’s music. By saying that you hate the band, and spreading their name good, or bad, you’re still promoting them in a way.

“The Dreamer”
This song is the start of the EP, and probably has the most feeling of Asking Alexandria in my opinion. You’ll hear the influence in almost every song on the EP, but more in this song in my opinion. You might hear some Capture The Crown influence as well, which isn’t bad. It’s actually pretty neat to have a band show their influences off in a song. Skarlett isn't in any way a “rip off” of said bands, or else everything in their music would be the exact same… and it really isn't.
Breakdown:
Cleans: The clean vocals on this song are rather neat, and sort of range high and somewhat low which isn't a bad thing. The higher clean vocals are probably the best… the lows just don’t cut it for me, maybe it will for other people, though.
Screams: The screaming range sort of reminds me of Asking Alexandria’s older screaming style which is pretty nice, and that’ where you can mainly hear that influence of Asking Alexandria. Otherwise, it’s influenced in the guitars a bit.
Instrument: The instrument play is somewhat influenced by Asking Alexandria. You could say, but it’s a bit different in the tuning style. The instrument play really does sort of have a Capture The Crown influence with it, and somewhat in their tunings it sounds like.

“Just Another Night[Mare] (ft. Denis Shaforostov)”
This son is pretty neat, and it features Denis Shaforostov (ex-Make Me Famous) who’s recording his new bands album Down And Dirty! It was pretty neat that Skarlett had the chance to feature him, because he has had some buzz around his name for a while now. Since he’s on a song that, might have boosted up the buys of this EP, and then again maybe not. This song is on this EP two times; one with Denis, and one without. The one with him is so much better than the one without him, honestly. Denis makes this song more unique with his vocals.
Breakdown:
Cleans: The clean vocals on this song are a bit better than they were on the other song. You can tell that this song was written a bit after the first one, because of how different the vocals sound. They’re not bad or anything, just a bit different.
Screams: The screams on this song, are a lot deeper than the other song… and more improved, if you ask me. The style seems to be more for him, honestly. The screams have a very small influence from other bands, which is pretty nice. It kind of shows you the originality in Skarlett.
Instrument: The instruments are a bit more Skarlett, than any other band, and by that I mean that there aren't really any influence from another band attached to them.

“Just Another Night[mare]”
This is pretty much the same song as the last one, but mixed differently, and without Denis. I do enjoy this song, just not as much as I did with the one that features Denis. I’d definitely like to see him try to re-do this song, with a different feature maybe? He could try to do several versions of this song, and make it into some sort of an EP. That’s not a terrible idea, actually. Maybe he’ll take that idea, and do it in order to fund a full length, or something in the future. I mean this song could be played with the vocals and instruments, which is really neat in my opinion.
Breakdown:
Cleans: The clean vocals don’t really change much in the version’s, some of the clean vocals are censored a bit, and there are a bit more clean vocals than there are screams.
Screams: The screams on this song turn into the backup vocals a bit, which isn't bad. And the screams are basically Skarlett’s screamer’s style… not Denis’ which might be a bit new.
Instrument: The instrument play is pretty nice on both versions as I hear it, it’s a bit louder on this song then the other one.

“You Only Live Once, So You Can’t Die Twice (Yolosycdt) (ft. Set On Famous)
Honestly, I heard about this song having two bands Skarlett, and Set On Famous, on the same song. I don’t think that this has ever been done before in the history of post hardcore, so Skarlett did end up doing something rather new (So you can stop saying they're a rip off.) I mean, two bands on the same song… that’s pretty intense, and yes, the song is intense with the drumming. The drumming is mixed the whole way up, and you can hear it over everything. Which is pretty nice, if you’re a person that’s into drumming. I really did end up digging the drummer’s style, it’s somewhat new. But the fact that there’s two bands on this song, is enough for me.
Breakdown:
Cleans: The clean vocals are a bit higher, and I’m pretty sure that one part is Set On Famous, and the other is Skarlett. I’m not a hundred percent sure on that, but if so, they pretty much wrote this song perfectly. Which is a bit hectic having two bands on one song. You’d think It was all over the place, but it isn't
Screams: The screams are basically offset between the two bands. In my opinion this is what sold me to liking the song more than the others on the album. I mean this is a single for Set On Famous, but it’s mostly a Skarlett song. I think this song sort of boosted up Set On Famous’s fan base. (Thank you Skarlett!)
Instrument: The instrument play is spot on, but the drumming is the thing that stands out the most on this song because it sorts of goes over top of everything else. It sounds like the drummer hits the drum set pretty hard.

“Green Eyes & Butterflie”
This is the love song on the EP. I’m pretty sure I saw skarlett say something awhile back that this song is written or his fiancé (Cute right? I think it’s pretty cute.) The song really does make me feel like it’s an eighty’s written ballad. I mean if Skarlett came out in the eighty’s with this song, the band would have boosted up their fan base like it was nothing because of how much people loved love ballads back then. Even though I don’t usually like love songs, this song was pretty neat to listen to, and the fact he wrote this about his fiancé is even better.
Breakdown:
Cleans: The clean vocals are definitely toned to fit the love vibe of this song, you can sort of tell right off the bat on this song. The lyrics make it somewhat more special, because he comments on her eyes the most. I guess his fiancé has green eyes, and a butterfly tattoo? I definitely do enjoy the clean vocals on this song, though. They fit with the meaning of the song.
Instrument: The instrument flow fits with the songs meaning, which is really nice. The vocal flow, and instrument flow, go together perfectly on the song. Props are given there!

“Dreamer(S)”
Is the last song on the EP, and this song does what it says “Let’s go down in history”. Now, will Skarlett go down in history? The world may never know. But if they do, it might be with this song. The song is definitely fresh because of the heaviness, and the production is a bit different than the other songs. This is what bought me. The screams on this song are so much deeper than the other songs, which was only another plus.
Breakdown:
Cleans: The clean vocals weren't the best on this song, but they were decent to say the least. I’d like to see Skarlett’s clean vocalist keep messing with his vocal cords a bit.
Screams: The screams are my favorite part of this song, because it sounds like he built up all of this anger, and finally let it all go on this song. It’s definitely something that bought me in a heartbeat. But I do believe that the screamer should try some better styles other than this. I mean there’s a million possibilities that you could do with your vocal cords.
Instruments: The Instrument play is definitely the best on this song. The guitars, and drums were definitely mixed more differently than the other songs also, because they’re a bit louder on this song then they were on the other songs.
